Bellatrix Lestrange Costume

May 7th, 2009 by admin

“You need to mean them Potter! You need to really want to cause pain,  to enjoy it,  righteous anger won’t hurt me for long.  I’ll show you how it is done, shall I?  I’ll give you a lesson.”

-Bellatrix Lestrange

Modeled by the lovely Stephanie Tauson.  I have to admit, this is the costume I took some liberty with.  Everything is as close to replica as possible, except the train.  The movie costume was short, about ankle length, this dress is obviously a lot longer than that.  So in my mind this is how the dress looked before it was eaten by moths sitting in Bellatrix’s closet while she was in prison.  It is double layered with black chiffon and along with the train it is so yummy to wear!  Elegant and yet so witchy.

I love the train, it’s not accurate I know, if you potterheads are offended, sick your house elf on me.

This costume is super popular on my site, and I thank you all for your comments.  If you like it please let me know.

UPDATE!

Thank you to everyone who is interested in my costumes and the patterns.  I have been overwhelmed by your compliments and support.  I have to admit, that though the interest is there, it may not be feasible for me to make the patterns or do commissions.  You see, I am directing a movie.  Costuming has always been a bit of a hobby for me, and initially in my directing career I was unable to pay someone else to do the costumes, and thus had to do them myself.  Which led to the survival job of commissions, which led to recreations of costumes from movies, to wit, my lovely Bellatrix costume.  I had no idea posting this costume on line would get so many fans.  I must admit I am pleasantly surprised and humbled by your support.  Perhaps as time passes and more interest develops I can do a tutorial for the costume if not a pattern.  But, right now my time is for my feature film project, which I am so excited about.  It’s called Surely You Jest, an epic fantasy adventure!  There’s romance, wit, adventure, and a bit of dark magic.  Sounds like fun huh?  I think so.  For those of you who follow my crazy adventures and have not yet checked it out here is the website,  www.surelyyoujestthemovie.com.  If you are a potterhead it should be your type of project.  I wish you all well.  Happy creating.

I love this costume! And all of your Harry Potter costumes…. And the others, while I’m at it! What is it that you do with all of them?

To answer you Sara, I did create these costumes as samples for a wonderful store in Santa Monica, CA called Whimsic Alley. (However, I did make another Belatrix costumes for myself cause it’s so gosh darn fun to wear.) I don’t know the status of the samples yet but I believe that they were going to made for resale there. Whimsic Alley has really great stuff-not the cheapy Halloween costumes from a bag. Even though I make costumes and samples and I still bought a robe from them rather than make it myself-they are high quality and a for a really good price. I have yet to check out how my costumes turned out. I do believe that you can order them online as well. IF you live near Santa Monica I highly recommend visiting their store. It’s like stepping into Harry Potter. It’s very classy. Here is their website, http://www.whimsicalley.com/.

The dress is PERFECT. I think it is BETTER than the one in the movie, more like something Bellatrix would wear. I am interested in purchasing the pattern, what size do you have it in, and how much is it?

    Thanks
    Chelsea

Hello, I really love this costume. I would definitely be interesting in purchasing one, or the pattern for one. I am volunteering this october, as I have done for the past three years, to be a ghoul/guide in a haunted trail called Eakfest for my friend. It is a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis, and I have been looking for a well made Bellatrix costume. Please email me asap.
